I’ve been with my gf for almost 6 years. She has been separated from her husband for over 7 years. We have argued numerous times about her filing for divorce and she promised me so many times she would. But she never does.

It seems like she says what she needs to say to end the conversation with no real intent of actually filing for divorce. Why won’t she get a divorce?

Now her daughter (24) is set to get married and I told my gf I will not go if her husband is still her husband. She promised she’d get divorced. Well, the wedding is in 12 days and she still hasn’t filed for divorce. I feel like I’m being used and constantly lied to just so she’s gets her way.

Her and her husband share nothing. They were completely broke when I met her . He is 48 and still lives with his parents, after they separated he moved back in with them and his 22 year old daughter, whom is jobless, has no license to drive nor any ambition to get off the couch. And I have to support her when she stays with us every month for 3 weeks at a time generally.

I have done so much for her family over the last 5+ years but she still treats me like I’m being unreasonable for wanting her to get a divorce. But I know if the situation was reversed she would have left me years ago. So why is getting a divorce so hard for her to do?

  1. Until you set boundaries with consequences, she’s going to do what she wants. Don’t go to the wedding, you warned her.
