Hey guys, my (M 30s) doctor recommended I quit wearing boxers and boxer briefs and switch to briefs because of some recurring pain issues. (Honestly boxers and boxer briefs have been uncomfortable for years, anyway.)

Should I be concerned about conceiving at all if I’m wearing briefs? I know my own dad used to wear tighty whities, so maybe it’s not an issue.

Thanks for the help!

  1. Not a doctor, but I think most likely not. I’m given to understand that a great many children were conceived in the 1970s, when briefs were nearly universal.

  2. Highly doubtful unless the ones you’re wearing are not breathable or so constricting that they’re traumatic. There is a theoretical link between higher temperature and lower sperm count, but as someone who works in the medical field, a lot of things are theoretical that don’t turn out to be true in practice.

Even if it does lower your sperm count a little (that’s a big IF), it *still* may not be an issue with fertility.

tl:dr – I wouldn’t worry about it in terms of fertility. But, if they’re causing you discomfort, I would definitely switch.

  3. Wait are you trying to conceive? Or not conceive?

I mean if your doctor says switch I would switch? Honestly it’s weird you listened to your docs recommendation on underpants but then didn’t ask about conceiving?

  4. I wouldn’t worry about it personally but the bigger question…

If they’re uncomfortable why wear them?

Buy nice ones, they’re worth it. Each brand fits differently as they have slightly different cuts, so you’ll have to try a few different ones to find the right then.
