I (M/25) have known my friend “L” (F/22) for a year now. We both attend the same university and work at the same work-study. We always say hello to each other and talk for a few minutes, although due to class schedules we don’t really work often anymore.

Anyway, it’s now a new school year and my work-study has hired new students for the year.

One of these new students happens to be “L”s roommate and friend.

I’ve only talked to her (22) friend a few times but I always enjoy conversing with her, she’s kind and friendly. While she’s not in the same major as me, it’s still the same career field, so I find it pretty easy to talk to her.

I’d definitely like to get to know her better. I was wondering if it’d be a good idea to tell “L” that I think I have a crush on her friend/roommate. I’m almost certain she is not seeing anyone, so it’d be nice to be sure if she is or not, and to see if “L” thinks maybe I’m her friend’s type as well.

Is this a bad idea?

You can do this by just talking regularly like you say you usually do. If she likes you, she’ll give off body language signs that she can’t control. If in doubt, you can always shoot your shot. No need to get the friend involved.
