I can’t afford one holiday abroad this year, let alone several.
Turkey, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Germany.
Find a country I’ve not been to before, book the cheapest flight I can find, wing it.
I’ve been to two. Italy in January for skiing and Spain (Lanzarote) for some September sun.
Also had several long weekends camping in the UK.
This year has been a pretty typical year for us and how we like to use our holidays.
I travel the UK. I went to Brighton, Cornwall, Scotland, Manchester, Lynmouth. We book a hotel and stay there for a few days.
Thailand, France and Switzerland although the latter is cheating because it was for work.
We travelled to Tokyo, Japan.
I’ve been to Madeira, Italy, France, Hong Kong and Prague this year. I tend to do many shorter trips, all of my trips this year have been 4 – 5 days. I planned the trips to Madeira, Italy and Prague but France was more last minute to coincide with a friend’s interrailing trip and HK was joining my husband who was out on a work trip.
I get a lot of annual leave from work, 44 days including bank holidays. So I’m generally trying to take a week off every so often and spread it out through the year, so I don’t go more than about 8 weeks without a break.
I tend to go during the off-season and pick mid-week budget flights which are cheaper.
General rule is I’ll take 2 weeks leave for one big trip and then use the rest on a series of shorter breaks, spread out over the year so I’ve always got something to look forward to and get regular down time from work.
Always have a few destinations in mind so I’ll book the time off first and then see what looks good – cheap flights & accommodation, events, weather etc.
Was in krakow for a weekend in February and went to Greece for a week in august.
I don’t earn a lot, but try to go abroad at least once a year as I love travelling. Me and my partner both have birthdays in February so instead of buying gifts we try to go on a city break in the half term then. The week in Greece was out first ‘beach holiday’ since 2019.
Looking to get a weekend somewhere in the uk booked by the end of the year too
Lanzarote a weeks family holiday taking my son on first holiday
Eindhoven, Netherlands to visit partners dad
Albufera, Portugal was made redundant so went away for five days before moving to new job. Got a cheap trip as booked 36 hours before
Got two for trips abroad planned:
Malaga, Spain three days with company as a Christmas party
Iceland & New York a holiday booked ages ago but been paying off for a year and been financially straining me would recommend being careful doing it this way as can prove difficult.
3 weeks on the west coast of Ireland doing the southern half of the Wild Atlantic Way, 3 weeks in France touring form the French alps back to the west coast.
In our campervan
The last time I was abroad was 2018 and I can’t see it happening in the next 5 years either.
I’ve been to Turkey(Antalya), France(Nice) so far.
Going to Dublin later in the month (used to live there).
Then Paris in November.
I had a week in Uzbekistan this summer while moving between countries. That was the 23rd country I’ve been to. I’m trying to visit all the ex Soviet republics – done Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan so far.
This year (so far) I’ve been to Wales for a few days, Spain for 2 separate weeks, Gran Canaria for a fortnight and I’m just on my last day of a week in Fuerteventura.
I always book through booking.com and usually search for my flights on Skyscanner.
Now that most Airlines have introduced such ridiculous pricing on baggage, I’ll be starting to use Jet2 holidays. They include 22kg luggage in their holiday price. Well worth looking at.
We’ve been to France, Monaco and Denmark so far this year, and are off to China on Friday (although as we’ll be staying with the wife’s family she disagrees with the idea that it’s a holiday!).
Travelling is where almost all of our disposable income goes, and I’ve been to 35 countries in total.
Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland (can you tell we like Eastern Europe!), Turkey (for a classic Brit abroad all inclusive), and Budapest so far. We’re going to Spain and getting the train down to Portugal next week and then Egypt (another Brit abroad one) next month.
As you can also tell, I never have any money left- even the cheap cities we end up spending more than we planned. We tend to just put ‘everywhere’ into Skyscanner and book the cheapest place, most of the city breaks were under £20 return.
Krakow (Poland}vand Triglav national park (Slovenia)
5 days each and a 4 day visit to the lake district.
Normally go abroad in January, June and September with a domestic holiday in May. Only 2 this year because we’ve spent a shit load to go to Norway next January/February on honeymoon.
