I tend to wait until the belt is falling apart.

  1. About once a year. I dropped a bunch of weight though recently and am on the last notch. I might need to replace this one sooner

  2. I think the past 3 belts I’ve bought were only because I was traveling and forgot to pack one.

  3. Somehow, never. My dad bought me my first belt. My second was one I stole one off a dead guy when I was a rascally teen, used it until someone gifted me one for a birthday gift, used that until I went on vacation and my SO at the time bought one from a random sidewalk stall.

  4. i stole mine from a spencers its a deadpool seatbelt buckle type deal. that was back in like, 08/09

  5. I have a brown leather belt made by the Amish that will likely outlast me. It’s so thick. I have to slightly fight it through the belt loops of some pants. Definitely buying a black one next time we go back. Those dudes are serious craftsmen.

  6. I have a columbia sportswear one that is 15 years old. My weight went from 188 -225 -192 in that period and it has wear marks on 4 notches… it is like a family member at this point!

  7. I’ve been wearing my every day belt for the last 14 years. It’s stretched enough to be at the tightest spot so I might need to poke another hole in it soon. I bought my last nice belt about 4 years ago and that only gets worn if I need to tuck my shirt it.

  8. That’s a very good question. The last casual belt I bought, and it’s a thick, dark green, double pronged mother, was about 5 years ago. Won’t need replacing for many a year yet. Daily work belt (for chinos and whatnot) is a thick black leather number, about 15 years old and still going strong.

  9. Pretty much never. The only belts I’ve got are those that either came with trousers as a set, or were a freebie.

  10. As infrequently as possible.

Not including gun belts, I think I’ve owned 4 since 2005 or thereabouts

  11. I’ve created a guide for you

    Does current belt fit?

Yes – no new belt needed

No – get a new belt

There you go, don’t buy into any consumerism bullshit, at most you need one black and one brown belt and that’s it

  12. I bought a couple of new belts this year: one during a vacation because I was tired of removing my belt when going through a TSA scanner (I bought one without a metal buckle); and a new one after my old one broke.

  13. If no change in waistline, a good belt can last years, if not decades. I bought full grain leather belts from Orion (unfortunately, they closed) many years ago and there is no sign they will ever give in.

Edit: Do not buy anything other than full grain if you want it to last. “Genuine lether”, “bonded leather”, etc. is just bs.

  14. I’ve been using the same daily belt my father gave me since high school. I’m now 40. I had holes added over the years but am now slimmer than when I got it.

For dress belts..when I need a new size.

  15. I bought one of the shark tank belts, latches differently than a normal belt. First new belt in years and with it’s adjustability might be my last.

  16. I have nine belts lol.

Had to do the math for a second, but yeah, nine. Spare in the office, spare in my day bag. Wearing one right now, and in my closet I have seven hooks, all but one of those have a belt on it. A few of them are old, I tend to replace when they don’t do their job any more or get too ratty
