Barring 1-2 short haircuts, I’ve always had long hair since I was 16. Neck length

Now I’m starting to feel I may go short-medium permanently. Because suddenly something doesn’t feel right with long hair, as if I had a wig on. How strange

  1. Hair length has been an interesting journey for me.

My high school used to police boys on their hair length hardcore. I once spent a month in school suspension because I refused to cut my hair and beard. This kind of policing led me to over compensate when I was finally out of school, I let my locks flow freely for years and grew and shaved a big bushy beard countless times over just because I finally had the freedom to do so.

Somewhere around 32 or 33 I started cutting my hair a little shorter and now at 35 I’m rocking a full on caesar haircut. Having long hair is great, particularly when you’re having a “good hair day” but it’s also a LOT of maintenance which is why I don’t mind shorter hair as much now. When my hairs longer it takes ages to dry properly and I used a TON more shampoo and conditioner, with hair cut short though I use about a nickel sized dollop of shampoo or conditioner and I really can’t have bad hair days with it at this length, even if I roll out of bed with it looking kind of disheveled, a quick brushing makes it look serviceable.

Long hair is almost impossible to make look decent after sleeping on it without washing it.

  2. I wore my hair long for decades starting as a teenager. Collar bone to elbow length and everywhere between. I got it cut on my 40th birthday because I was ready for a change.

Soon after, I met who became my second wife and she was a metalhead and after seeing old photos was surprised I ever cut it. I grew it out again and this time, it just didn’t feel right, didn’t suit me anymore so I keep it short now.

If you aren’t feeling it anymore go get it cut. If you don’t like it, it can always grow back.

  3. When my hair started thinning. But for you it depends on the face shape, long hair looks good on some people, just keep it out of your face

  4. It wasn’t so much a matter of age as it was just getting sick of dealing with long hair (and mine was *very* long when I was young).

  5. You are never too old, sometimes you have a style that works for it. Like a few of the dads of my friends growing up had long hair, they were rockers, metalheads, etc. He might be a fictional character but Greg Universe rocks his long hair pretty well. And that one grandfather from the Food Wars anime does too.

  6. I just turned 26 and I’ve had mine a couple inches past my shoulders since I was like 13. No plans on ever going back to short

  7. I’m 72 years young and just started letting my hair grow over the last 3 years. You’re never too old for it.

  8. I am a 60 year old man, and my glorious hair is long enough that even tied in a ponytail, the ponytail is at least 16 inches long.

  9. If you can pull it off well you’re never too old. I would say for most people they should probably stop by about 40 to 45 though.

  10. 35 with shoulder length hair now. In my 20’s I had it down to almost the middle of my back. I cut it once and I regretted doing that.

Never too old for long hair.

  11. When you can reach back between your thighs, grab your hair, pull it up to your chin and braid it into your beard… it still isn’t too long.
