Someone asked me if I like them as a person/friend. To be honest, I’m not really comfortable with them. What do I say while still being polite?

  1. Well, honesty is important but it’s also important to be tactful. You can say something like, “I appreciate your friendship, but I think we have different personalities and interests. I value our interactions, but I feel more comfortable around people who share similar interests as mine.”

  2. You might consider responding, “I’m not comfortable answering that question.” If they press you, you can always respond, “Did I studder?” *giggles* or you could say “I only answer questions on Tuesdays.” When Tuesday rolls around, let them know the hours of operation have changed and you’ll let them know when you’re open for questions again.
