Must admit that I’m very bad at this. But I don’t decline any social invitations even if I’m feeling down. It’s better to go and try to have fun than missing out. I can always leave if I’m not getting into it.
Also has a friend who checks in regularly and makes sure I het out of the house every now and then.
If I’m feeling sad I normally invite ONE close friend over to talk with and relax with, it helps a lot when sad.
Sometimes I find that being around my friends is enough to get my mood up, and energy back.
Mostly my friends understand that I have ups and downs. Just be patient and I’ll come around again.
The important thing is making sure the downs don’t last too long. For that, I think it’s best to have 1 or 2 people who are very close to you who can give you a little variety and enrichment during that time. Too much activity or two many people is too overwhelming but falling into a pattern prolongs the down and leads to a depressive episode. Maybe it’s a board game tonight and a walk tomorrow night and a TV show the night after. Could just be a 30 minute activity each day but make sure it’s a *different* activity.
