What does it mean when someone says “we have never had sex” for some reason the grammar seems weird to me. Is the grammar correct here? I wasn’t sure if the person writing this was typing it correctly or if it’s just me. Also English isn’t my first language. But a guy sent me this earlier.

How do I become better at grammar and being aware of how people use terms?

Tl:dr; is this correct grammar. “We have never had sex” English isn’t my second language so it sounds weird to me. Is this correct? What does it mean?

  1. It’s correct, it means that the person has never had sex with the other person, can’t really explain it better without context but it means that no sex was ever involved lol

  2. It is correct grammar

It does sound a little awkward but if you think of other similar sentences it will make a little more sense, for example

I have eaten pork (in the past)
I have never eaten pork (n the past)
I have had sex (in the past)
I have never had sex (in the past)

I included the phrase in the past because this kind of statement is telling you what he did or did not do in the past

As far as what it means he’s saying that we which is probably you and him have never had sex before

But I suppose it could refer to him and another lady that you are concerned about so he is saying that he and she have never had sex before

  3. I think what you’re missing is the implied word, which is together. So the real sentence is “We have never had sex (together)”.

Sex is something people “have” rather than “do”.
