I always get salt and vinegar on my fish and chips and they tip the salt on… But I’m always left wanting more, I think it’s cut with something!

  1. Not been into the local chippy as it be recently been took over, under a new name, after closing for nearly a year.

  2. Most chip shops don’t use malt vinegar but salt is ridiculously cheap. It’d only make sense to cut it with something cheaper, like sand.

  3. Table salt/cheap salt is processed and contains additives including sugar. Pure salt, like sea salt isn’t particularly nice either IMO. Give me that fake salt!

  4. If a chippy was so cheap as to use fake salt I would be more concerned about what else is fake about my meal.

  5. Your taste has probably changed inline with a high salt intake. I can’t imagine what you could cut salt with to make it any cheaper. Salt is cheap as chips.

  6. You will get an “average” amount of salt and vinegar, and so if you like more, then it will be insufficient. Mrs tmstms and plenty of other people I’ve known in my life feel the same as you.

  7. Is it because of the “vinegar” perhaps? They use non brewed condiment which is different to vinegar you probably have at home. So it’ll react with the salt differently.

  8. My local chippy cuts their salt with cocaine. Tasty but the chips are ridiculously expensive

  9. Summary of answers for everyone:

    1. I’m an idiot (?) who possibly also has a medical condition

    2. I’ve desensitised my taste buds through regular salt intake

    3. The non vinegar vinegar is altering the taste

    4. Cocaine

    5. Msg/other salt substitute with lower sodium

    6. Incorrect order of application
