Not really? At least, I don’t think cheesy is the word I would use. That seems negative. Pop music is supposed to be as relatable as possible to as many people as possible. Mainstream pop is often not…deep
Some songs are simply more light-hearted and “youthful”. Olivia Rodrigo music is like that. Very much so based on the feelings/thoughts/experiences of someone in the their mid to late teens
Other pop songs have lyric’s based on the funny or silly things an average person might experience or connect with. Like I was just listing to Taylor Swifts Hits Different. It has the lyric
>I pictured you with other girls in love.
>
>Then threw up on the street
The way its written likely will make a young woman between the ages of 18-30ish go “lol same”. Although, Me! is uh, still a very interesting song. That is one I would say is pretty cheesy
Yes, pop music is generally pretty light. From ABBA to Britney Spears to T Swift, it’s not really meant to be deep poetry, it’s meant to have broad/mass appeal.
Yes they do. Actually it’s a problem. The studios write music for the artists because they know it will become a hit. But the artist wants to write what they want. And the studio is mad because it will ruin the artists image and a bunch of other bs. So yes it does sound cheesy and all the same because they do it for money. Something catchy, easy to listen to, and a general theme everyone can relate to. You’re 100% correct some ppl j get salty
Pop music is built on catchy and easy to like tunes. Country music is mostly pop now. That is why Taylor Swift is so popular. It’s catchy.
The most popular bands are often those that come up with simple and catchy songs. Examples are the Beatles and Kiss. Don’t get me wrong, I like them just like everyone else. The bands that specialize in more complicated themes are much more niche.
That’s the thing: on paper, every song is stupid. All lyrics are dumb. But the point isn’t to be smart. The point is to try and get women to take their panties off
I’ve always thought that pop music is like nursery rhymes for adults.
Cheesy is really subjective. I love Dan Fogelberg’s song “Longer,” but my husband thinks it’s cheesy. [It’s not exactly a pop song, I know.]
Not really cheesy but they played the same songs over and over again. That’s why I haven’t listened to the radio in years.
Most pop lyrics range from cheesy to ridiculous. “Oh Baby, Baby Baby, my sweet Baby Baby”
Obviously I don’t have much use for most Pop music.
Yes. I switched to playing my own music in my car now, and it so much better.
A lot are cheesy, a lot are also not how people normally talk anyways. So, not always, but the answer is a lot closer to “yes” than it is to “no”.
What could possibly be cheesy about Scott Stapp taking us higher?
sometimes yes, sometimes no
I don’t know what Eddie Vedder is saying, so it doesn’t sound cheesey to me
Yeah, but in a “it’s part of the charm” way.
Yes
Yeah like all of them.
I was a college and community radio DJ for years and I absolutely hate most mainstream radio.
But that’s just me. I liked playing a lot of more off beat stuff. But I will say a couple bands I was playing right when they were first coming out are now on the radio. It’s weird to me.
