Women who struggle with narrow hips and wide shoulders, what are your tips ?

  1. If you don’t have a large chest: Lean into the boyish look on the top half. Very feminine cuts like bodycon dresses look like costuming on me so I just avoid them. Tube tops or neckholders look cartoonish on me since the broad shoulders came with very little in the chest department.

So I will wear often flared skirts and a slim-fit men’s shirt. It fits the shoulders while the skirt gives a feminine silhouette. I pair that with leather shoes to make the menswear look appear self-aware.

  2. I don’t think its as big of a deal as it is in my head but flared skirts, for sure. I also try to find v-neck shirts that don’t have a defined shoulder. Like, the sewing just goes straight down the top and bottom of the sleeve instead of that vertical line attaching the sleeve. Not sure if that makes sense. Butterfly sleeves are a close second. I also like to have prints or patterns on the bottom and a plain top. Preferably black.

  3. Full skirts that start at the waist and hit somewhere between mid thigh-mid calf. It’ll fill out the bottom part of your figure to match the top!

  4. Scarves are your best friend!! They balance out your shoulders, draw attention away and can add curves, colour and shape. I feel an outfit can look flat without a scarf, so you’re adding some texture, volume and shape.

They are fun and add detail and a pop of colour. Even to a basic t shirt and jeans. I have a polka dot scarf I’m obsessed with. It’s my favourite. I’ll wear a white shirt and the polka dots and pink makes it much more interesting than just a boring white shirt.

It makes any outfit come to life and feel complete. Otherwise turtlenecks are great! Black and red are my favourite colours.

As for narrow hips, I’d opt for flared skirts and pants.

  5. A-line skirts and especially high waisted ones really balance out my silhouette. Or wearing oversized tunic style tops that kinda hide my hips so the silhouette isn’t easily seen.

But a lot of times I just lean into it and show off my shoulders with sleeveless tops or halter tops. I’ve found that a lot of people actually find my broad shoulders very attractive.
