In my 30’s, wouldn’t even think twice. 40’s, I can’t stand sitting at airports, travel to/from airports, the flights, waiting around. So much time wasted. Kills my motivation/drive, personally.

  1. I’m 38, and this is way too complex of a trip for me. I’d rather drive to vegas, rent a room and get drunk and gamble for three days, then go home.

  2. To me, a trip that short is a waste of time. I’d want more time in Zion.

Your car rental will be expensive as you’re not returning it to LAS.

You can get direct flights from PHX to SGU, which will shorten your drive the park.

  3. Way too much driving all at once. I’d rather enjoy each place I’m in. Seems like all you’re doing is travelling just to travel, not see your destinations. I don’t think it has to do anything with age either. I would have thought the same thing in my 20’s.

edit: by driving all at once I mean driving from place to place all in the same day. I have no problem driving long distances, my most recent being a 15 hour trip from GA to MI.

  4. This is too much time in transit vs enjoying the destination. Age isn’t a factor here

  5. I didn’t have the motivation for this in my teens or 20s even, no thanks. Thats a way too stressful of a time for me. And thats assuming everything goes perfect.

  6. Angel’s Landing?!?!?! Hell no, hate heights*

*but I have hiked the narrows from top to bottom, camping along the way. And done some sweet hikes in Zion like Subway and some rapelling routes (rapelling ok… hike up Angel’s Landing unprotected sounds horrifying).

I would go do multiple days there if you to make the trip worth the time

  7. Seems kinda hectic. I guess I don’t really know what/wherr Angels Landing or Grand junction are, but it seems like there’s not much time at a destination in there.

I did fly from Cleveland to Barrow, Alaska (3 flights, 14 hours total) earlier this year, stayed a day and a half, then flew back. I didn’t regret doing that, but I wasn’t hopping all over the place like your trip sounds like.

  8. Flying in and flying out of a destination the same day is something I’d never consider doing on a leisure trip, particularly if the activity I plan to do is 3 hours from the airport.

If I’m getting on a plane, I’m spending at least one night at my destination.

  9. 31M here – it has nothing to do with my age, i’m just not someone who enjoys the bullshit that comes with traveling (waiting in airport lines, being around so many people, etc).

  10. I used to fly just twice a week for work and was so sick of it by the end of the second year, I started missing flights intentionally. (Ended up quitting that company not long after.)

I couldn’t imagine flying as much as you’re saying. I’d lose my mind.

  11. I’m still of the mindset at 38 and hope to always be of the mindset that if I have to sacrifice comfort or something to see someone I care about or do something with them, I’d rather get it in than miss the opportunity. Life’s short so I gotta take those when they come. In my life they aren’t common.

Last year I drove I drove from SLC to Albuquerque, hot air balloons one Day, up to monument valley, lake Powell, Bryce canyon, Zion, grand canyon and back to SLC in 6 days. Did angels landing and a few other hikes. All because one of my best buddies was making the time to come state side.

  12. 41 here, that’s got nothing to do with age, everything to do with a shit itinerary.

As laid out, it’s a waste of time.

  13. From late July to early September, I did the following. All by plane, train and Uber.

Chicago, Milwaukee, Chicago, Lexington, Tampa, Miami, Pittsburgh, D.C., Baltimore, D.C., Columbus, Boston, Philadelphia, D.C. and Lexington

Biggest regret is not planning all too well. You gotta plan trips to a t or else it’s going to be more chaotic than it needs to be.

  14. I wouldn’t do that at any age – sounds unpleasant and stressful for all that travel

  15. I’d just do the drive. Tons of bs for the airport.

But also turn and burns in general suck

  16. Fly to GJ from where? St. George?

You’re in deer country around Zions. I-15 and i40 are both kinda dangerous at night especially after a long hike
