So normally I’m the one giving advice but this is something I’ve struggled with for a while. Whenever I’m interested in someone, whether romantically or not, I often struggle to start a conversation over text. Especially if I’ve only had one or two conversations with the person. I feel like “hey how are you” is too open ended and not an interesting way to start a convoluted, but I also often times don’t know a person well enough to ask pointed questions. Once I’m at that point of familiarity it’s easy, but the first few conversations always feel to surface level.

Any advice or examples of good openers would be amazing

  1. It’s always very easy when the topic comes up when talking to them in person first. For example, if talking about your favorite band or something you can say at some point, “i’ll text one of their best songs”. Then they’ll reply with what they think of it (maybe) and conversation ensues.

Making some connection between your relationship in real life helps to make things low key.
