Men whose partner is diagnosed with Bipolar II, how are you handling/navigating the relationship?

  1. Pretty well. She was diagnosed in her early 20s and has received treatment for it. She manages it pretty well between her therapy sessions and medication. There are only rare instances where she is unable to manage it herself, and in those situations she usually gets depressed and not manic, which is easier to deal with.

The early days of her diagnosis were rough on her, and although she had it mostly managed by the time we met 6 years ago, she had more frequent episodes than now which could be tough to get through. The big thing is just to support where possible and encourage the use of outside and professional supports. It would have been a lot harder if she refused to seek professional help and I’m not sure we would have made it as a couple without that willingness.
