What’s a song that makes you tear up every time you hear it?

  1. Gone Away by The Offspring. Yeah, I know it rocks, but it was the first song I heard after my brother took his own life. The lyrics really touched me, so I learned to play it.

I miss him every day and it’s been 24 years

  2. “Coat of Many Colors” – Dolly Parton. Every damn time I hear that song.

  3. Way too many.

Cats in the Cradle – obligatory

It’s Quiet Uptown (Hamilton) – oh lord

    Something I Can Never Have

  4. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day.

About a month after my Dad died at age 56 from lung cancer I was home listening to the radio when this song came on. It literally took me to my knees. It was my first experience with what I call “ambush grief” and that song has never lost the ability to make me tear up even though Dad’s been gone 24 years.
