What are a few effective strategies to stop/prevent yourself from doomscrolling?

  1. Tactics I have found helpful:

Install one of those apps on your phone that limits the amount of time you can spend on a particular platform.

I like to put my phone somewhere random in my house so I forget where it is. On those days, I don’t go on my phone the entire day.

  2. Twitter / X used to be awful for it. It’s what my algorithm had latched onto.

Since I retrained it to deliver ferret related content from Japanese ferret owners, my social media experience has benefited enormously. My feed is 95% ferrets, in a language I cannot read.
Doomscroll is now a 2-3 minute therapy scroll. Interspersed with doom that tries to sneak back in.

  3. Have an old iPhone. My battery doesn’t last long enough for me to scroll for hours and my charger is usually broken
