Anything other than diamonds.

  1. I have moonstone which is precious to me even if it’s technically a semi-precious stone. I’m very happy with it.

  2. My engagement ring does have diamonds, but it’s got a nice amethyst in it, and it’s very pretty. 🙂

  3. I’ve always liked emeralds and opals. Diamonds are too boring to be as expensive as they are.

  4. My engagement ring has an emerald as the main stone, it’s my favorite and also my birth stone

  5. The center stone in my engagement ring is aquamarine. It’s my birthstone. There are diamonds surrounding the aquamarine.

  6. Mine is an aquamarine with little diamonds around it. I love it. Blue is one of my favorite colors and a significant color in our relationship history which is why I wanted it.

  7. My ring is a moissanite. It has a similar durability and look as a diamond, but the cost and environmental impact is significantly less. My engagement and wedding band cost a total of ~$900 for both, and I have not met a single person who was able to tell that it isn’t a diamond.

Also, even though it is frowned upon, people DO ask what the stone is. Often. I usually get “he must really love you!” or “is that REAL?!?” If you’re not comfortable telling people it’s an alternative stone, just tell them it’s glass in a sarcastic way. It works well for me. I don’t like having to explain what a moissanite is to judgmental Judy at work or Nosy Nancy in the produce aisle at the grocery store.

  8. I wanted something to wear on my hand until I lose the pregnancy weight. I bought a half carat moissanite ring. I love it to pieces. It sparkles like crazy.

  9. I have a bright blue sapphire with little sapphires around the band. Wouldn’t trade it for any diamond ring. I love it. My engagement ring is a salt and pepper diamond which is also gorgeous, I know it’s a diamond, but it’s not a typical one

  10. I have a regular and black diamond combo on my engagement ring. I love it, and my SO did an amazing job picking it out. Only wish I could fit some moonstone in there. Don’t know (or care) if that’s precious but I absolutely love moonstone
