I’ve always been a bit of a pushover and most attempts to stand up to myself lead to an argument/fight with my friends.

For example we live in a society that stays up late but I have sleep and other health issues so I always want to go home earlier than they do to get prepare for bed and other things. This is just an example there are many other situations where I disagree with the group on something and it causes a bit of a fight where everyone becomes stubborn and I usually let it go in order not to cause more unhappiness (this is especially important in groul trips).

I want to learn how to stop being a pushover but also stay flexible, any tips?

Edit: spelling

  1. You agree with their concerns, but keep coming back around to your self-assertive statement.

Them: “C’mon, don’t go to bed NOW! The fun is just getting started.”

You: “It sure sounds like fun but I’m sticking to my schedule for my health.”

Them: “It won’t hurt you to stay up late one time.”

You: “I appreciate you wanting to include me, but I need to stick to my routine.”

Them: “You’re always ruining things with your early bedtime!”

You: “Glad you think I’m so important, but so’s my sleep. I’ll see you in the morning!”

The key is to repeat repeat repeat no matter what they say. If you were diabetic and they kept pushing sugar on you then you’d find some way to say no. Do the same here.
