This is so unbelievably dumb, but it just shows how much I over think everything.

I have a female friend/former coworker (I’m a man). She left the company three years ago. We’ve kept in touch but as things tend to do, it’s been getting sparse. We were very close when she worked here though.

Her birthday is coming up, and it’s just my nature to wish people a happy birthday because I know people generally like it, and I’ve always remembered people’s birthdays. But, because I overthink, I’m worried that since we don’t talk much anymore, she might think I’m being creepy or weird or something, especially since she never remembers mine (I don’t care about that, whether or not people remember mine isn’t important to me).

What do you think I should do? I know this is completely stupid, and rationally I know it doesn’t matter, but I can’t get past that overthinking mental block.

  1. You sound like many people have TOLD you that you over think. Consider that you might just be a thoughtful person. If it makes you happy to make others happy on their birthday, I say, go ahead and wish them one. Maybe just make it brief, if you’re concerned about being creepy.
