I have a medical condition and before I apply for driving lessons I need to let the dvla know and get confirmation that it’s fine for me to drive, it says it may take up to 6 weeks to hear back and I have been waiting over 7 month and haven’t heard anything back, I have tried ringing and they say ringing will do nothing and they are waiting for a doctor to approve it. I have had confirmation from my hospital/GP saying I will be fine to drive I am just waiting on the dvla to confirm it. Not sure if this is the right subreddit but does anyone have any advice on what I could do.

make an appointment with the doctor, do not tell them why and then discuss the massive delay with them at the appointment.
Get a doctor’s letter and send it to them yourself. That will spped up things.
I’ve got a question – has the doctor sent you a letter that expressly says you will be fit to drive?
I had to apply for the medically short licence a few years ago, and it didn’t take particularly long – but then I had been sent a copy of a letter from my consultant that said I was fit to drive. Clearly the letter was on the file, so I’m wondering if that’s the issue here.
How did you inform them DVLA, I was diagnosed with a condition 5 years ago and, although I’ve never discussed driving with my consultant, wanted to find out if I could still drive or not. I haven’t had a car for a good few years but would be nice if I could maybe get a concession bus pass.
Mine took months as well once my GP had sent the forms back to DVLA with the info they requested. I sent in a letter to DVLA medical dept to complain, which I sent via recorded delivery so they couldn’t deny they’d received it, and then swiftly received my medical license in the mail shortly after. Can’t say for sure the letter of complaint had any influence, but might be worth a try.
7 months??! I applied online in June, sent my medical form back 5/6 weeks ago and have heard nothing. What’s even more annoying is that it seems “awaiting application return form” covers the entire in-between process so unless I spend an hour on the phone I have no idea what is going on.
