Love it. Such beautiful, wild landscapes, amazing architecture, rich history, great people.
It’s the same as any other country. There’s some breathtaking places and some definitely not so great places. The people can be lovely or definitely not so lovely.
Having said that, if a good career opportunity came up for the other half that meant moving there then my only hesitation would be leaving my mum and best friend behind but I’d still probably leave the Northwest for Scotland. I think we could build a good life there.
The husband’s a second generation immigrant to the US, who’s super in touch with his Scottish side.
We ended up there for about two weeks around our 10 year anniversary.
Some takeaways:
Edinburgh was super interesting and cool
Isle of Skye was amazing
Glasgow was a blast, but tbh I don’t think I was entirely sober enough to properly appreciate things
Loved it. Glasgow especially. Some of the nicest people I’ve ever met anywhere.
I love castles so anywhere with lots of them is great! Also I liked the landscape and the people I met were really friendly.
I live in England so Scotland isn’t particularly far away, I’ve been on many trips there. I’ve spent a lot of time in the cities (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen) and love all of them for different reasons, but they’re all vibrant, full of things to do and beautiful.
I also did a roadtrip up the west coast, visited Oban, Mull, Glencoe and the Isle of Skye, staying in little airbnbs like shepherd’s huts along the way. It was super easy to drive, gorgeous landscapes, lots of cute places to stop in and the places we stayed were all very intimate and pretty. We went in Sept and had glorious weather.
Beautiful, friendly, look forward to going back.
Loved it, went to Edinburgh and the Highlands.
