Men of Reddit, how do you define love?

  1. For me its when you want to do things for another person not caring if it benefits you or not

    Its a choice

  2. 1..A strong feeling of affection and concern toward another person, as that arising from kinship or close friendship.

2..A strong feeling of affection and concern for another person accompanied by sexual attraction.

How to determine if love is real or not? Fuck if I know

  3. Our bodies run on energy and calories… And in the distant past, calories were scarce and essential to survival. Thus, we evolved cravings to seek out calories.

I think love is just one of those cravings for something else that benefited us in the past.

  4. It’s living your existence in a manner where your so unbelievably blessed with your love, you’re elated and thankful for everything that they have done for you.. you wake up everyday looking forward to spend time with them.. it’s loving somebody unconditionally.. and I mean truly unconditionally.. and that’s a commitment.. love requires a lot of faith.. it’s stressful being so deeply connected to another person because when you aren’t with them.. it’s hard not to worry about their well being.. because you know losing them.. would kill you

  5. Can’t be defined. When you’re in love, you just know. It’s dumb, it makes no sense, but it just is what it is.

  6. Undescribable most times….but when able to Its an experience you know feels right. Like you’ve come home.

    That’s just my .02

  7. Don’t know it is too vague of a question. I would rather focus on solving problems in physics, neuroscience and ethics. I would atleast end up with something.

  8. So I’m not religious but I like the Bible’s definition of love and what it says about it. For anyone curious It’s 1 Corinthians Chapter 13:

“1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

  9. As described in Rick and Morty:

    >I hate to break it to you, but what people call “love” is just a chemical reaction that compels animals to breed. It hits hard, Morty, then it slowly fades. Leaving you stranded in a failing marriage.

  10. Love is a verb: it’s an action you perform to express your emotional attachment to another. It can be shown in various forms, but it’s something you DO, not something you feel. I can say “I love you” all day long, but it’s only through my actions that the love is felt and truly expressed.

  11. it’s a wazi. it’s a wuzi. it’s a fairy dust. it doesn’t exist. it’s never landed. it is no matter. it’s not on the elemental chart. it’s not fucking real.

  12. Unselfish concern for another’s well-being.

Being willing and able to support another’s pursuit of their well-being because you have a heartfelt belief that they deserve to enjoy life and feel good about themselves.

Love is an intention, a wish, a desire. All the emotions and actions are the byproduct of love but it is not love in and of itself. Like how the smell of barbecue is not the actual barbecue itself.

  13. Well, it’s really quite simple. It’s kinda like…

🎶Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
    Gonna grab some afternoon delight
My motto’s always been ‘when it’s right, it’s right’
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night?
When everything’s a little clearer in the light of day
And we know the night is always gonna be there any way
Thinkin’ of you’s workin’ up my appetite
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight
Rubbin’ sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
And the thought of lovin’ you is getting so exciting
    Sky rockets in flight
    Afternoon delight
    Afternoon delight
    Afternoon delight🎶

  14. Being able to sit in the same room with your partner and have it be quiet, without the need to talk to one another. Those of you married for a long time know exactly what I mean.

  15. To covet is to desire someone, to want them, and forcthem to never want anyone but you.

Love is strong enough to die for. To truly love a person means you would be willing to put your life on the lune for them, defend them against bad odds or risk never being able to look yourself in the mirror ever again.

Real love is to acknowledge to someone that you see the two of you as two equal parts of a bigger whole.

The highest revelation you will ever be able to achieve in any meditative state and any existential probing is that you and your neighbor are One. You have no higher claim to existence than they have, unless they commit unforgivable crimes.

Love is keeping sacred bonds intact. Love is putting in the work in a relationship. Desire and hunger is fleeting and transient, while love is like a big, rough rock that is polished smooth on the dome-shaped top of it, because millions of people have steadied the palm of their hand on it, on the path to the top of the mountain.

  16. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

  17. That urge to make someone happy and care for them in return of nothing is something i would say is love

  18. The sucky thing about English is that there’s a bunch of different types of love, but only one word to inconveniently group it all together. But I’ll assume you’re talking about romantic/sexual love, given the nature of this subreddit, and honestly Reddit as a whole.

It’s all about self-sacrifice; doing something you may or may not want to do if it means benefitting the other person. This applies to just about every type of love, but especially romantic love.

  19. The feeling that a person cares about me unconditionally, and has me in their thoughts. Actually seeks to see me, and spend time with me. Even for a lil bit, as time permits.

  20. I know it wouldn’t apply for everyone, but for me, it has to meet three criteria to be romantic love:

1: I am sexually attracted to the person (or at least not repulsed)

2: I care about them more than myself (in the sense that I’d rather give them a chocolate than eat a chocolate)

3: I get especially anxious when they make a suicide joke (I had a bad experience so now if I love someone and they do that I get very anxious, but if it’s just a friend I have no anxious reaction)

  21. (Romantic) Love is an addiction/attachment to someone.

(Family) Love is an obligation to someone related to you

(brotherly) Love is a non-sexual attachment to another person

(unconditional) Love is a myth. But if it exists, then the only recipients are children.
