(22M) who’s been working in an investment banking company in Chicago with (25F) for 2 years. Girl is leaving the company next week to pursue next steps. To give a little background, we’ve gotten pretty close over the past few months and started to open up to each other. She’s a little shy and timid and she has a boyfriend plus she’s my coworker so I’ve never said anything to her that is outrightly suggestive. We do talk about our personal lives quite a bit when we see each other in person at work, but we do not hang out outside of work/text/ or call unless about work related issues. When other coworkers are around, they do hear us talking and laughing and generally just having a good time, but we are not touchy nor inappropriate so I doubt other coworkers suspect anything is going on between us (maybee a little bit of harmless flirting and I know how it can be misconstrued since she has a boyfriend but this just makes work a little more bearable). I have made her blush on a few occasions when talking to her and I will say that I feel there is some tension between us but I also know we both will not act on it for legit reasons. However, what’s confusing to me is that last week, she just completely went cold on me when things were going well. I think it started when I asked her if she wants to go down to the basement vending machine with me to grab a snack (we’ve gone down together before so this is not completely out of the blue). She said “I actually brought some food today, so I’m good” and that was fine by me. But since then, she’s started to act super strange around me and she’s actively avoiding me this past week. I don’t think I said anything that day that suggests anything inappropriate (I’ve been behaving/talking with her in similar ways for months and never started acting cold). She’ll be gone by next week and I never had any expectation that anything was going to come from this aside from some harmless flirting, but can you give me your thoughts as to why she decided to give me the cold shoulder before leaving the company? I’m very confused as to what she’s thinking.
