I really like the accent in [this song](https://youtu.be/3Ue3si2n0dY) and I was wondering what region of America this is from or if it even is an American accent? Apparently the singer lives in the UK but the accent sounds very American to me.

  1. It’s basically the general American accent (sometimes called Midwest Neutral) that newscasters and the like try for. I didn’t hear anything regional.

The singer does something weird with his long “i” vowels, but I suspect it’s just a stylistic thing.

  2. Franc Moody is an English band. Lots of singers (especially British) tend to lose their accent while singing, so this would just be a neutral American accent, if anything.

  3. It’s not.

A big chunk of the base American accent is using the vowel forms that project the best. So even singers with other speaking accents, like this band from the UK, can sound “american” just by making a conscious choice to project more while singing.

This may also play into why we’re often perceived as loud.

  4. To me he sounds British with an American accent that is neutral. The long “I” sound is like nothing I’ve ever heard in the US. I’m in New York.
