If someone wanted to get more into building/ woodworking/mechanical type work and things of that nature what would be some small projects to start with or maintenance related things to work on around the house with a new set of tools ?

  1. 1. Start small and simple. Don’t jump into a complex project right away. Start with simple tasks like changing light bulbs, cleaning and lubricating hinges, or replacing door handles.

    2. Learn about the tools you will need. Research the different types of tools, read reviews, watch tutorials, and practice using them in a safe environment before tackling bigger projects.

    3. Take a class. Many local hardware stores, community centers, or universities offer classes in basic home maintenance and repair. Taking a class is a great way to learn the fundamentals of mechanical and maintenance work.

    4. Ask for help. Don’t be afraid to ask friends, family, or professionals for help when needed.

    5. Practice and practice some more. The more you practice, the better you will become. So don’t be afraid to try

  2. Start with figuring out what type of tasks are you curious about. What do you think will be rewarding or give you a positive regard for your self. Plumbing requires a complete knowledge of the systems, designs, common problems encountered, the difference between flow and pressure, where to use copper or stainless steel or cast iron or PVC pipes, etc.. Rarely do you have any opportunity to build or repair Plumbing that doesn’t get buried or covered ⁴up. Carpentry on the other hand, can often be a focal point of a room. For example; a spirale staircase or a set of French Patio doors.
So the rewarding aspects are different and it’s extremely difficult to be professional at both.
Are you fascinated by the way buildings were put together 100 or 300 years ago? Or does keeping up with the latest technologies and new techniques intrigue you?
Of course, we humans tend to get bored with something about the same time we get really good at it, which is why I am trying to find another way to earn a living that utilizes my vast knowledge and skills as a master carpenter, but offers me a different reward at the end of the day.
