How do you have a conversation?

I know it sounds like a dumb question, but online, and specially here on reddit, i struggle to have an ongoing conversation without one of both parties either not replying anymore (possibly ghosting), or the conversation just dies, and i don’t initiate it anymore.

I struggle to lead conversations and social interactions since i’m more of a socially passive person, and unless he/she talks about anything i really like or i’m interested on, i can’t really talk fluidly. I was told IRL years ago that i have a bit of asperger syndrome too.

But how do you do it? How do you chat to make that person feel interested so that he/she doesn’t feel like a chore answering? How do you keep people engaged to you even when you know nothing about them?
