I‘ve asked one of my co-workers if he wanted to grab a coffee with me sometime. I was told by a colleague that said co-worker quit and I didn‘t see him there for two weeks, so I figured it was true. So I thought it couldn‘t hurt to ask him out, even if I didn‘t know him super well since I only started working there recently.
Now it turned out that he actually didn‘t quit and he told me over text that he isn‘t interested in a date, he was super polite about it. We work in different departments and don‘t see each other too much at work, but I‘m really anxious it‘s gonna be awkward now. Normally I wouldn‘t ask a co-worker out unless one of us quits or is about to, but here I am now. Any tips on how to handle this? I definitely won‘t bring it up again with him, but I feel like I kinda messed this one up.
