I’m a foreigner. My dream is to move to the US. But even with everything, all my qualifications, masters degree done in the US, etc, my chances of ever getting a work visa are slim to none. But then you walk into subway the guy making your sandwich is a Bangladeshi man that barely speaks English. When things like these happen, and they happen often, all I can think is “how did this person get a work visa even though they are clearly not eligible?” My question mostly comes from the idea that if they do it maybe I can too.

  1. There are more ways to become a resident of the US other than employment.

That person making the sandwich is definitely more deserving of being here than you. You’ve a master’s degree but haven’t thought to look up readily available knowledge about visas?

Edit: You don’t even have a master’s degree lol

  2. There are a few ways

    * get a job in the US that’s willing to sponsor visas
    * marry an American (note that doing this *just* for a visa is illegal)
    * get a job for a multinational (especially American ones) where you can get a transfer to the US and they’ll sponsor your visa
    * family sponsorships if you have any US citizen relatives

With a master’s done in the US finding a job that will sponsor you should definitely be doable.

  3. There’s a fairly good chance that the guy behind the counter of a Subway that’s almost impossible to understand owns the place. It’s extremely common for franchises like Subway to be immigrant owned.

I also wouldn’t assume that because someone can barely speak English they’re not US citizens or permanent residents.
