Years ago I got a refund from a bank I’d used for literally $0.08. I was too embarrassed to go cash it and it would have cost more in gas than in was worth, so I just threw it away.
And then I got a follow up check since I hadn’t cashed the first, and another, and another, and another.
I moved from that house years ago.
I wonder if someone is still getting my check.
Follow up: this thread makes me wonder how much money gets wasted each year on checks that are worth less then the amount it costs to send them

Ex energy customer service here:
I got a male customer who sounded drunk call up about 3 different addresses. He was wanting to get a refund for about 30p off each of them, I spent about 25 mins on the phone confirming the exact amount for every account. Line manager wouldn’t authorise it as it would cost more in paper.
A place I worked at had a class action lawsuit taken on them and I got like 17 cents
Use mobile deposit. Just take a picture of the check on your bank’s app. I haven’t physically deposited a check in years.
6 cents I think. It was a class action settlement with a credit card company or something like that
Not a refund check, but I once got a paycheck for $0.36
I haven’t received a small refund check, but I received a credit card bill once for $0.25. Probably cost them more to mail the bill.
For 5¢ after I cancelled my insurance policy to get a better rate with someone else. I still had a month or so left of that policy.
Edit: to add…that was with Mercury insurance

Every quarter I get a check from SiriusXM Holdings for $0.02. Apparently I still own one share of their stock, and that’s the dividend. I have no clue how to sell that share.
I do the rebates at a local hardware store chain. If I were to actually hand in the cheapest one, it would have been maybe 40 cents and considering postage at the time was still $0.50 plus, I didn’t bother
I got one the other month for $0.01. I had overpaid a bill by a penny and they sent me a refund check over it, it cost them more to send me the check then the penny itself cost.
I had the IRS mail me a check for my $1 return one year.

I got a cheque for $0.33 when I overpaid a credit card. It was too small of an amount to use the photo deposit feature through my banking app, so I made a trip to the bank to deposit it. The teller looked at me like I was crazy but I told her, “If they’re gonna give me money, I’m gonna take it.”
$. 02 from a bank in Korea when I was stationed there. They spent international postage to mail me a check for 2 cents.
Wasn’t a refund but a “reconciliation” for hurricane Katrina pay. $0.01. My coworker got one for $0.00.
