I have a job that allows me kind of do whatever I want. Like an infinite amount of time. I workout and I do things to workout my brain, it’s how I pass the time and I don’t like feeling like I’ve squandered all this free time.

Currently I read and learn new languages. I like it, it’s enriching. But now I’m kind of looking for something that will benefit me. For instance, learning about finance.

Thanks

  1. Did you guys know Indonesian sugar plantations harvest almost 400k hectares of cane every year?

  2. Over the summer I was big into astrophysics and cosmology. Currently learning a lot about Japan, I want to make a trip out there eventually. In addition, I also have been learning a variety of dances, satisfies my need for kinesthetic learning. It also gives me goals to work towards, allowing me to learn about myself and what I am capable of accomplishing through discipline and practice.

  3. I don’t do like the long term learnings like you. Rather I take a few days of like 30-60 minutes per day to learn some random new fact from ChatGPT. E.g. having ChatGPT teach me about uranium enrichment and then what went wrong with the nuclear reactor in Ukraine.

  4. I’m gearing up for skiing this winter. I started to learn how to carve last year, but snow conditions kinda sucked most of the season. I’m trying to absorb as much info as I can before I hit the slopes.

I’m also trying to learn more about winter camping. I have a hot tent this year and would love to do a few trips. Did a test weekend this fall before it got too cold to see and it went well.

  5. I am currently studying American Sign Language. (ASL) I have no compelling need to other than I find it interesting and it will open up the possibility of getting to know hearing impaired folk. No doubt it could also come in handy some day.

Also, as a single man if I see a beautiful woman signing, I will potentially have game that other guys don’t! Although I have been told not to eavesdrop or invite myself into conversations. Makes sense.

It’s humbling though being someone who works with words all day doing presentations now being the guy in the chat that struggles most to communicate. Please be patient with me fellow signers!

    I appreciate it.

  6. I’m learning React Native. I don’t want to make a career out of it, I just want to make simple word games.

Finance is a great thing to learn about, and I wish you the best with it. It goes without saying though to be careful of people disseminating bad advice, scams, or high-risk investments.

  7. I am currently trying to learn how to stick up for myself and stop being a yes man. Trying to learn Japanese. If I also see an interesting subject that I don’t know much about (ex: motorcycles) I will go down a rabbit hole of looking into things

  8. In your case, I’d start taking some online courses to gain new employable skills. Your job sounds like one that may not last long.

For me, I’m starting a meteorology course on YouTube, and watching a Great Courses astronomy series with my wife (I know most of it already, but my wife wants to learn).

I’m also learning to operate antique trains at a local museum, and as a result I’m trying to learn more about the history of railroads that used to exist in my area, to know more about the artifacts I’m maintaining and running.

  9. I’m passionate for languages, I’m a native spanish speaker, I speak english and French pretty well, Now, I’m learning Italian and Japanese

  10. Utilizing python in machine learning. I’m also looking at learning python for cyber security
