What tv show did everyone collectively watch that has every American woman’s profile talking about “I’m just here for the banter” or “if the banter isn’t good I’m not interested”? This must have started in the last five years, so if there was a popular UK show from a few years ago that probably explains it. Also, I’m not sure they know what it means. In England at least, you’re supposed to lob insults at people lol. I don’t necessarily find it irritating, just kind of bizarre. This is coming from a place of genuine curiosity. 😇

  1. From a female perspective- Waayyyyyy too many men only reply with single word replies.

No leading questions showing they actually want to get to know us.

We get tired of trying to figure out if you are shy, nervous, disinterested, boring, married, low effort, or messaging 85 other people.

We shouldn’t have to work so hard to have a fricken’ conversation with y’all.

Banter means there’s some back & forth.

  2. From a males perspective, women on dating apps also just give you cryptic one word answers

  3. Why would you think it’s a show? There’s Gilmore Girls back years ago where they banter a lot. I’m not on dating apps or would write that on a profile, but I secretly like the idea of banter. Its a fun witty dialogue with someone. And when it happens, it feels magical. It doesn’t even have to be flirting, just volleying comments back and forth.

Has that ever happened to you, where you met someone, and the conversation just flows back and forth without awkward pauses and it’s fun and amusing?

  4. Not from a tv show for me i just would want someone who can keep up / understand the jokes

  5. Why wouldn’t American women understand what the word banter means in a UK context?? I’ve spoken to UK ppl who know random American slang like “y’all” from either TV, movies, or exposure to it

  6. Banter’s just a term for good conversation. She’s essentially saying she’s only interested in people she clicks with (or in the case of “I’m just here for the banter,” she’s bored and wants to talk to someone who interests her). It’s about as subjective as all other personal qualities on a dating app.

  7. Someone once told me, “A woman that likes you is nice, sure, but a woman that is angry with you. Well that is something else.”

I don’t know what it is but some people want to argue and have hot hard sex.
