Have tried for years to make close friends. I can never make it past the stage of being an acquaintance.

I have been trying since elementary school to make a close friend. Unfortunately, I rarely make it past a grade being friends with them. I have made several acquaintances this year in high school (I am a freshman now 15M), but no close friends. I am lonely a lot ever since my mother died and I am an only child. All of my “friendships” have been one-sided.
