Which states are considered vacation-like states?

  1. Maine has “Vacationland” on its license plates, so at the very least they’re selling it a bit more than other states.

  2. “vacation” is too broad. some people wanna sit on a beach for a week. some people wanna gamble. some people wanna see a national park they’ve never seen before. some people wanna ski. some people wanna go to Mardi Gras. just depends on what you’re interested in doing.

  3. I’d say most states have at least something to offer. The generic answer is any state that has a beach but then you have states like Nevada, which has Vegas (gambling, shows, etc) and then states like Colorado, which has mountains, skiing, etc.

  4. Maine has been promoted as a vacation destination since around the end of the Civil War. The nickname “Vacationland” has been on Maine license plates since the 1930s. I know it’s one of two states I want to vacation in.

  5. It depends. I could see Vermont, Wyoming, Upper Pennisula Michigan, and Maine to be vacation states.

I also consider Florida, South Carolina, Hawai’i and Louisiana to be vacation states.

  6. Overall, Florida and Hawaii.

That said, I’ve lived all over the USA and each region has it’s preferred vacation areas, which typically involve a beach or lake.

  7. Most states, except the Mid-west ones, are great to take a vacation in; lots of options to do.

  8. Texas – Big Bend National Park

    Hawaii – An Obvious one

    Arizona – The Grand Canyon

  9. Depends on what you’re looking for. If you want a beach, go to Hawaii. If you want to go skiing, go to Colorado. If you want Disney World, go to Florida.

  10. It totally depends on the type of person you are. A lot of people would say Florida but I can’t imagine a worse state. I would be more of an NYC or someplace with snow person.

  11. All of them depending on the area.

Obviously Florida and Hawaii for beaches and weather.

Pretty much the entire western US for mountains and natural beauty.

Cooler summer vacation states would be Maine or Michigan.

Anything with an Ocean and a beach also counts.

  12. Here in California, people like to visit our beaches in the summer, go on hikes, go to amusement parks like Disneyland or Knotts Berry Farm, see the attractions at Universal Studios, or take the Hollywood Houses tour (I totally recommend that one).

  13. Technically, every state has their areas that are popular for vacations/tourism. However, I would have to say Florida, Colorado, Hawaii, and California come to mind.

My state (Massachusetts) is also a somewhat popular vacation state. Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and the Berkshires are all popular vacation getaways, especially in the summer. Boston is one of America’s most visited cities. People from all over the world visit Salem in October.

TLDR: Every state is a vacation state. But where one person visits for vacation, someone else may not. Some states are more visited than others.

  14. Southern California for sure!

For example, today was about 68-70° and sunny to the point. I actually went to the beach. And it’ll be December next week! Lol

  15. There are great places to go for vacations just about everywhere. People don’t think of Wisconsin as a vacation state but tourism is one of our largest industries. Door County and Wisconsin Dells alone probably account for the majority of that, and then there’s the entire Northwoods, both Great Lakes, Milwaukee, Madison…

  16. It depends on what you’re looking for but the stario typically location are Florida, Louisiana California, New York, Nevada and Hawaii.
These are the broad “vacation states”
Lots of Hotels in plenty of cities to explore.

Unless you want to go hiking or more nature oriented I’d recommend Montana, Idaho the New England states and the Great Lakes states.

  17. *all of them.*

there is literally something for everyone in this country. I have driven from coast-to-coast at least 8 times and have never been disappointed with what i have found along the way.

It’s a big country, there is a lot to see here.
