What were your favourite and least favourite parts of being a Maid of Honour?

  1. I’ve been a “person of honour” a few times, but thankfully that was before the current set of “person of honour” expectations. I wouldn’t accept that position with the current set of common cultural expectations for it; I’m not a wedding planner, party planner, or weekend getaway organizer, so I’m not interested in taking on those roles. I consider it an honor to be asked to stand with the couple rather than considering it signing on for a job role to be assigned tons of responsibilities and duties.

    * Favorite: Standing with, celebrating, and supporting the couple getting married.

    * Least favorite: Realizing after our friendship changed that I’m all over the wedding photos of a couple I hope to never see or hear from again.

  2. The only part I consistently don’t enjoy about being a MoH (or bridesmaid for that matter) is feeling stressed about how my dress will fit several months after I order it. This is such a stressful experience for me that after my best friend’s wedding, I made a promise to myself that I will not agree to be in any more wedding parties.

  3. I was maid of honor for my sister and loved it all! Planning the reception, picking out dresses, putting together a bridal shower, making sure everything went well on the day of. I did the wedding invites (and other printed goods) too as I am a graphic designer. My least favorite part was when the wedding was over I guess.

I have been a bridesmaid a few times and will say I did not always enjoy it. One time was mostly bc it just cost SO much (~5k when all was said and done)
