Yes, in Texas we have neighborhoods with mostly Hispanic immigrants
Depends on the suburb. Los Angeles, probably. Boston, no.
Here in Northern Virginia, suburbs are very mixed. I’m one of a only a handful of white folks on my street.
Sure. We have similar rates in Massachusetts.
Places like California, NY, New Jersey have lots of suburbs with high immigrant populations.
Dearborn near me has over 50% ME/NA. Hamtramck is probably similar. I am assuming most major metropolitan areas have either a section of the city or a suburb that is an enclave of an immigrant population.
Yes, this isn’t odd in America depending on where you are. There are two towns by me that have a large (may not be majority) Korean population. There is another with a large Indian population.
I wouldn’t say it’s common to have a majority immigrant population though in a town, but a significant amount in some towns isn’t odd.
Also, I’m saying this using your definition of “immigrant or children of immigrants” and assuming you mean most recent children of immigrants.
Of course
Definitely, especially in places such as the San Francisco Bay Area.
Yes, but the US isn’t as desperate to import renters as Canadians are to buoy up their housing bubble. So they have proportionally fewer immigrants – because they have actual real economic chops to fall back on.
In my area of suburban south east Pennsylvania we have large communities of immigrants from South Korea, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. I’m so happy to live in a place with such a diverse community!
Homie the US has more immigrants than Canada has people, where do you think they live?
Depends on which suburb you mean.
I live in Seattle and I’ve always thought of Bellevue as our enclave of Canadian suburbia. It’s not majority foreign-born but it’s 40% apparently — mostly East and South Asian origin. Also has a bunch of skyscrapers like a lot of your suburbs like Mississauga, Richmond, Surrey etc.
Yes, lots
Lots and lots of them.
Yes, there’s plenty of suburbs in the NYC area where you’ll find immigrants. In Long Island there’s a lot of Salvadoran immigrants.
NY , Miami, LA.
Yep! My suburb has a lot of Chinese immigrants and American-born Chinese. There are lots other areas around LA (and OC, and SD) though and different cultural groups will gravitate towards different suburbs.
Bellevue, WA at one point was 25% foreign born, to say nothing of children of immigrants.
Clarkston, GA, is nearly exclusively refugees from all over the world and the people that help resettle them. Fifteen minutes from downtown Atlanta.
I don’t think we have entire suburbs like that where I live but we certainly have neighborhoods in the main city and some of the suburbs that are like that.
El Paso, Texas has 82% Hispanic population.
In general African Americans, Hispanics, Asians and East Indians tend to segregate themselves on their own. Forced segregation is illegal in the US.
All major cities have areas dominant of certain race. They’re typically called China Town, Little Italy, Little India, Black neighborhoods, etc.
If you take Chicago for instance you’ll find this
1. Devon Avenue in Chicago is known as “Little India” and is home to many South Asian businesses, including grocery stores and shops selling saris and jewelry.
2. There is a neighborhood in Chicago called Little Italy dominant of Italians.
3. Polonia Triangle for the Polish population in Chicago. Also polish immigrants are the largest ethnic group in Chicago.
4. Southside of Chicago is black dominant which is where Obama and his wife are from.
Yes, pretty sure there are suburbs in San Juan with 100% Puerto Rican immi…. wait a minute…..
Sure. My hometown of Fremont, California is over 60% Asian and 48% were not born in the US.
Pleasant Grove, Balch Springs, Garland, suburbs of Dallas, TX.
Predominantly Latino of Mexican and Central American descent.
I know New York has it
In my county, it’s like 50-50.
Yes. Ethnic enclaves exist everywhere, the US is no different
Yes, my neighborhood is mostly Somoans, Tongans, Mexicans, Russians, and Ukrainians.
However, I grew up in relatively good sized towns with very little, if any, immigrants. Most of the folks I grew up with were either Old Stock, German-American, Irish-American, Italian American, or African-American.
I live north of Boston and our immigration population is largely Brazilian.
I wish I knew Portuguese better. They are super cool people who love being here.
One of my landscapers waited 11 years before being able to be reunited with his wife here and his children here when he was deported.
He and his crew worked 24/7 to bail me out (no pun intended, that’s what they did) from a flash flood last summer to save my house.
Def in Texas and California. Probably also New York, New Mexico, and Arizona.
Waukegan outside of Chicago could be a possibility. There is a large undocumented population.
Absolutely. Both suburbs and neighborhoods within cities.
Oh yes, especially with immigrants that aren’t European (with exception to Eastern European and Southern European immigrants).
