Ever since I started masturbating (I remember the first time I did it when I was 5 or 6 years old) I noticed that I would feel much more pleasure if I held my breath.
It wasn’t until after the age of 25 that I discovered the term self-asphyxiation. The thing is that recently I have been trying to masturbate without holding my breath but it is not possible. If I don’t, it doesn’t feel half as pleasurable. But I would like to feel pleasure when masturbating without having to resort to holding my breath. Is there any way?

  1. You’re not alone. The feeling of getting more oxygen to your brain when you orgasm is amazing.

  2. I (f38) do the same thing but only out of habit. Growing up, I got used to holding my breath everytime I masturbated, solely because I was trying to be as quiet as possible. I lived in a strict conservative household so getting caught was a huge fear of mine.

Weird thing is, I only hold my breath when I’m trying to cum through clitoral stimulation (rubbing, receiving oral, etc). When I’m being penetrated by a partner or by myself with a toy, I’m heavy breathing, making sounds, no problem. Cumming from penetration is a different sensation.

I wanted to stop holding my breath because I’ve seen how I look when I do that, either through mirrors or on video, and it’s not cute AT ALL lol. Body all stiff. Face lookin like 😖 Definitely needed to change that, especially after a partner teased me about it one time. It was lighthearted but still got me self-conscious.

It’s possible to retrain your body to feel pleasure in new ways. Tho it’ll take some time to get used to. In these attempts, I would try to stay aware of what my body was doing. I’d force myself to breathe through my mouth, making sure my lips didn’t touch so they couldn’t form a seal. It eventually worked for me as now I am able to cum without holding my breath. It takes a little more mindfulness tho. But holding my breath still remains my default setting lol

I’m sure the retraining process might be different for you. Connect with your body and it’ll tell you how you can adjust.
    Good luck!

  3. I’ve literally always held my breath… Even during sex to climax. I always assumed it was normal
