Is South West London (Richmond, Putney, Battersea, Kew, Kingston Wimbledon, Sutton, Merton, Battersea, Fulham etc.) similar to West London (Ealing, Hammersmith, Kensington, Shepherds Bush, Brentford, Chiswick, Hounslow, Notting Hill etc.)

I’m talking in terms of vibe. I’ve been around West quite a bit but never really to SW like that. Would you say it’s similar?

  1. I’d say no. I’d say West London has more of a big city feel to it, and South West is more villagey/suburbs

  2. More parks, wetlands, gardens, tourist attractions, etc in SW. Quieter (everything’s relative in London), more scenic cycle routes, lower crime. But like anywhere south of the river, worse public transport connections (again, everything’s relative in London – they’re still very good).

  3. W London and SW London are not a single place each.

Even the areas you mentiion are not a single place each.

But as a generalisation, I will go with /u/LondonCycling ‘s view as being essentially spot on.

There is as much variation within these places as between them. Go to Ealing and then go to Chiswick, or to Hounslow and then Kensington. You will not find these places particularly similar.

  5. Other than what LondonCycling said, you’ll be under Heathrow flight paths whatever happens
