So a few days ago I had a delivery from a popular fast food place using a certain food delivery company. Never had any issues before but this time the food arrived super late, multiple items missing and what did turn up was stone cold, inedible and way past any semblance of fresh. The only to contact the company was by phone and they told me that the delivery didn’t take too long (way over an hour) by their standards and I’ll get a refund for the missing items. Well the refund has been processed incorrectly so I’m still out of pocket for the missing items and £45 on food that went in the bin. Company refuse to help anymore so I’m considering do a chargeback, but I’m doubting if it would be successful. Has anyone successfully done a chargeback for something like this? I paid by debit card rather than credit card.

  1. Just Eat fucked up for me over the weekend. Friday evening, food cooked and when I chased the restaurant we had a good laugh about how it had been sat there for an hour waiting for someone to pick it up. Takeaway place said that there was obviously an issue at Just Eat’s end as they had loads of orders sat going cold for them.

I’ve not bothered contacting Just Eat. Their methods for raising tickets simply don’t work on the app for me, constantly asking me to add more info when I’m over the 1000 character limit (and before hitting that).

I’m fortunate enough to not really care about the £41 that was wasted on 3 hour late cold food, but simply won’t use Just Eat again.

  2. You can definitely request that your bank start a chargeback claim.

It’s a voluntary scheme and they may not initiate the process if they feel that there is only a small chance of success.

The merchant can dispute the chargeback and then the dispute would have to be resolved using either MasterCard or Visa’s dispute resolution service.

The merchant could also deactivate your account and refuse to deliver to your address in future, if that matters to you.

Even if the chargeback is successful, the merchant could seek to recover the money through the civil court (extremely rare, but a theoretical possibility).

  3. I am not sure about the chargeback thing but I have found that whenever I have an issue with an order placed on Deliveroo they are really good for providing no fuss refunds. Just take a few photos of the food, submit them through the app and tell them it was cold/damaged and they tend to provide a refund almost immediately.

  4. If it’s uber, you won’t be able to your account again on either Uber or Uber eats without paying them back the money that you charged back.

  5. Hell yeah. You gave them money for a service they did not provide and then they fucked you about.

  6. I have had a lot of luck when using a relay service.

It’s amazing how having a guy sit and explain the relay service to them seems to make them think it’s too much bother and just give me what I want.

Honestly though it drives me mad when the only way to get in touch with a company is via a fucking phonecall. I’m so glad relays exist because I can barely understand people on the phone when I know them well.

  7. Why are you disguising the fact this was Uber eats and it was McDonald’s?
Don’t worry, you won’t get arrested for naming them 🙄

  8. This was me two nights ago, Over 2 hours!! I think when I rang to ask about the order that’s when they actually made it 🤣🤣, Least it came warm
