Work is a really boring topic right? No one wants to talk about work on a Saturday night right? Is there an unwritten rule for this somewhere where you shouldn’t talk about work especially if you’re in completely different fields?

  1. How about:

    1. What’s new and interesting or fun in their life
    2. What’s new and interesting or fun in your life

  2. Not always.

I went out with co-workers a while back. We had a fun time but most of our conversation centered around our commonality – Work!

You can talk about other things too. Every time I see people mention they have nothing to talk to people about, I suggest they do some self-reflection. YOU do not have enough interests or experiences, it’s not the other people. Read some books, get a hobby, travel, etc. Ask them about themselves or share stuff about yourself and find some commonalities.

Some generic conversation starters are: “what do you plan on doing for the holidays?” “How was your weekend?” etc. The conversation should branch into something meaningful.
