Is asking to hook up irl disrespectful?

I’ve (22M) recently come out of my only relationship and have been considering trying out hookups.

I’ve kinda grown up trying to be as respectful as I can when it comes to sexualisation of other people but I’ve also seen that hookup culture seems to be a massive and common thing.

I’m not desperate enough to turn to tinder or anything but want to start trying to shoot my shot at parties or other events but I’m worried I will come across as someone being disrespectful for sexualizing people I either don’t know, or don’t know that well.

Are hookups inherently disrespectful? Should I acknowledge this and just do it anyway or is there a polite way to scope out the possibility with a person?

Also probably worth noting I’m not looking for a relationship at all and want to make that crystal clear for anyone I try to get with.
