Hi everyone. Noob Q: I’ve recently relocated to the US for work, and was wondering what’s the “unspoken rules” for being in a casual bar? I’m a Canadian and it has been years since I’ve visited any bar (never in the US to be specific).. quite honestly, trying to make some friends as it’s a new place for me over some beers.

Do Americans mind if an outsider strikes a conversation (I won’t pick controversial topics I promise 😉)!

What is your typical tip culture in bar? Do you add it to the check, or hand it over to server in cash? Anything else I should keep in mind?

I’m in Seattle WA if this matters.

Appreciate your read.

Edit: I appreciate your response, and as someone has rightly pointed out I’m indeed an introvert guy 😊 so your responses truly are appreciated! As we say in Canada “Respect is the guiding principle” and hopefully it will get us somewhere.

I just realized that I’ve been visiting US for a decade, and have been in NYC, Dallas and Boston but not once got a chance to visit any bar .. super weird but there you go 😊 Thank you everyone 🫡
