I have lived here a long time now and this is the one thing that still baffles me. At first I thought it was something that students do to cover up an ugly sofa (I moved here originally to study) but since I have seen that even in nice homes owned by wealthy people they have sofas covered with blankets. My mate says it’s in case you spill something on the sofa, but this reasoning to me seems nonsensical.

Is the reason that British people like the aesthetic or is there a practical function the rest of the world hasn’t discovered yet? What is up with the blanketed sofas.

As a bonus, I am also equally baffled by the plastic bowls that live in kitchen sinks. Why?
