Yesterday German CDU-politician Wolfgang Schäuble died at 81 years. In this context I learnt he was the record member of parliament in Germany, serving for 51 years since 1972 to his death. He wanted retire in 2025 with the next scheduled federal elections. This record didn’t just apply for post WWII, but there had never been anyone serving longer for any highest parliament in Germany since the first attempt in 1848.

Who is / was the record holder in your country?
