So I used to have a view that the rich lived in the suburbs and the core city was all poor people. But having studied cities closer, I feel like the suburbs is more for the middle class and that the wealthy is actually more likely than thought to live in the inner city.

Neighborhoods like the upper east side/west side/soho (NY), the back bay (Boston), Lincoln park (Chicago), Georgetown (DC), Cherry Creek (Denver) seem to be a huge cut above any suburb. Obviously there are other neighborhoods other than those in the inner city so not every part of the city is well off.

So are the rich in the city or suburbs? And are suburbs not an elitist paradise and in fact the opposite – the place you end up when you can’t afford the city.
