I recently did this same thing for similar reasons. I really enjoyed it. I picked a time and place that wasn’t too crowded, sat at the bar, ordered a drink and some food. 30 minutes later I had half a dozen new friends, plus the bar tender. I made it a point to tip her well too. It’s not weird at all. It’s a great exercise to build confidence and improve social skills. Go for it.
