  2. I’m not from Coventry, nor have I ever been. But I can tell you if you’re coming from September, and planning on staying over the winter, pack warm clothes.

England gets cold and dark very early on. So be prepared for that. The sun will be gone by 5/6 once we get into November, and temperatures will drop below 0 all the time.

If you’re going to be driving, get some spray de-icer and a sponge to keep on the car. The De-Icer will be a massive help when you come to the car and find it’s frosted over. It’s the fastest way to defrost it. The sponge is for the inside of the car. With how cold it gets the inside will have condensation on the windscreen, wipe it off with that.

Again if you’re here still from November, expect snow. We usually get it from Mid/Late November and it can come as late as April.

That being said from September and October, the nights can be quite nice. There is usually a cool breeze with a mild temperature around that time, but it’s definitely when the weather starts to turn colder.

A lot of people don’t realise this, but England is in line with the middle of Canada, Sweden and Denmark. We are very high up in the world, so the weather can catch people out. For some reason people think we are more France/Austria in placement on the earth

  3. Beware of scams targeting foreign students looking for property rentals. Be cynical, as there are scammers who will pretend to have a property to rent and get foreign students not yet in the country to send money to them for rent then disappear.

  4. I’m not sure it would be a good idea to transfer for a semester as a student while having a flat, a car and a job. All just to go to Coventry Uni? It’s a bit suspicious

  5. Coming from where? Because this can influence the driving thing. From the US? You can drive here a year on your US licence, then you’ll need to get a UK one. There is no reciprocity, so you’ll need to start from scratch, as though you’ve never driven before. It’s expensive and time consuming to do. The one year limit resets if you go home and come back, as long as you are gone for 90 days. Insurance will be very expensive if you use your US licence. Still expensive if you manage to get a UK one.

  6. Very unlikely you’ll need a car. Even campus Universities don’t have piles of car parking, it is also expensive to buy and run. Most people live nearby and take the bus.
