My partner gave me a Christmas present but won’t let me keep it because it’s expensive (~800 USD). Basically she’ll “hold” it for me and let me use it when she wants.
When I pointed out that I also got her something nice (designer bag at a similar price range), but it’d be insane of me to only let her use it when I want and call it a gift– she got angry and belittled me.
I haven’t talked to her since because I’m bewildered at the whole situation.
The price of the gift is not what matters to me; it’s the principle.
How do I proceed? I’m upset, and this situation brought up a lot of different red flags I haven’t seen before. We’ve been dating around 6 months.
