A few months ago I was invited to a party. Long story short, I spent the majority of the time in the living room alone while everyone else was outside mingling. My boyfriend had to socialize with other people so he had to leave me alone and I quickly felt self conscious as I heard everyone outside having a good time while I was alone inside. After a while, he brought some people in the living room so I could talk to them but when I tried conversing with them, they would quickly lose interest and go back to talking with other people, so I stayed quiet.

How can I be more outgoing during situations similar to this? I struggle mostly with starting a conversation and feeling bad whenever I feel unwanted, which further leads me to staying quiet.
