I know there is a lot of variance across states, so hopefully get lots of different answers.

When I was in high school, I remember those were the classes I really liked… lots of reading/discussions/writing papers. Most books read in full on our own, Shakespeare read outloud with acting parts (and yes, we all kind of snickered at the dirty jokes).

I’ve heard complaints that students going into college 1) Don’t read. 2) Don’t write. 3) Haven’t been writing full papers. 4) Haven’t been reading full books.

How accurate is all this? I know for a fact my literature teacher largely just went rogue and did her own thing, so I am not even sure if my personal experience reflects the norm…
